June 15 = 5th Manila Jazz Festival
After four years and two live recordings, the Manila Jazz Festival
goes on its Fifth Year on June 15, 2007 at the Grand Sunset Pavilion
of the Sofitel Philippine Plaza Hotel and is bigger than ever with
jazz luminaries slated to perform to a loyal and devoted audience.
This year's roster of musicians include Saxophone master Tots
Tolentino and the BAT Project (avant garde), Mike Guevarra and
Saxophoro (classical / modern jazz), Thomas Enhco and the Jazz Angels
from France, UP Jazz Ensemble with Prof. Reyben Maigue (big band), UST
Jazz Band with Prof. Roger Llado (big band), Sino Si Kat? (blues /
soul), Radioactive Sago Project (funk / spoken word), Mar Dizon and
Wowee Posadas of the Jazz Volunteers (cool jazz / bebop / fusion),
Michael Young and the Possibilities with Ms. Cynthia Alexander (nu
jazz / mainstream jazz), The Brass Munkeys (jump swing / bebop/
blues), Talaandig artist Waway Saway and the Kadugo Band featuring
Camille (ethnic jazz beats / world music), Popoy Valmonte and Jun
Cadiz of the Jewelmer Jazz Band (mainstream jazz / New Orleans jazz)
and the Queen of Philippine Jazz, Ms. Verni Varga. These artist will
provide a feast for the senses all night long.
The 5th Manila Jazz Festival (5MJF) is one of the main musical events
of the French Spring in Manila (FSM) celebration. The 5MJF is adapting
FSM's theme this year: Five Senses. The event is open to the
public—made possible by its sponsors led by Philippine Jazz patrons
Jewelmer International Corporation, Alliance Francaise de Manille, and
The French Embassy in the Philippines together with Sofitel Philippine
Plaza Hotel, KLM Air France, BNP Paribas, Le Cellier, and Asiatype,
Inc. Admission is free.
